Introducing Steven Andrew & Jameson Thomas

They have arrived! Here are some pics and the story...

Thursday April 23 we were admitted to L&D for our induction. We got there around 6:30 am and they did all sorts of tests and asked questions and had us sign consents etc. They did a quick ultrasound to see where the babies were positioned and Steven was head down, Jameson was still semi transverse. So about 9 am they started the Pitocin. It took several hours for the Pitocin to get a regular pattern going with contractions, but since we had had a previous c-section they were taking it very slowly. Around 12:25pm they came in and broke my water, then the contractions started getting a little more uncomfortable, but not awful. At 1:30 the anesthesia docs came in and told me they were about to start a c-section that was anticipated to take a long time and they didn't know when they would be available to come back and give me mine since it was required for a twin VBAC. So they gave me my epidural (which went really well after the ordeal with Adrian's c-section) and were on their way.

I continued to have lots of contractions about 5 min apart for a few hours they checked me again at 4pm and I was 5cm 90%effaced and at a -1 station. Slow progress but we were going in the right direction. Later they decided to do an internal fetal monitor on Steven's head to keep track of his heart rate, and they also put a small catheter in my uterus to measure the intensity of my contractions. At about 9 they came in and checked me and I was 6cm 90% effaced and +1 station, so still making slow progress but they started threatening c-section. Several times they talked about c-section but ultimately at 1:30am when they checked me I was complete/complete and we were headed to the operating room to deliver! I started pushing at about 1:50am and Steven was born at 2:03am weighing 7lb 7oz and measuring 20 inches long. 14 minutes later at 2:17am Jameson was born weighing 6lb 13oz and measuring 19 inches long. Jameson took a minute to start breathing, but Steven started crying right away. They were both required to go to the nursery after a VBAC birth and also a twin delivery, but they were perfect and I got to kiss both before they went.

I can't believe I got my VBAC, and I am so grateful for that opportunity and so glad I went for it. I tore pretty severely and lost quite a bit of blood, my hemoglobin was 7.4 afterwards (normal is about 13) but then the next day they had to bring me back into the OR to repair some tears that wouldn't stop bleeding. After that my hemoglobin went down to 6.7, that is when they said it's time for a blood transfusion. So I ended up getting 2 units of blood and a very sore bottom. lol! But we are still in good spirits as we avoided going under the knife! YAY!

The boys are so unbelievably adorable and such good babies. Adrian is still adjusting but loves his brothers. We are all just trying to settle in as a new family of 5! Wow!

The boys had their first peds appt this morning and Steven weighed 6lb 13oz and Jameson was 6lb 8oz but both are doing perfectly. We go back next week for another follow up.

Thank you so much to all of you for the unending support and love. We really appreciate it and can't express it enough. &hearts:Sariah
